Date: 11th November 2018
Time: 10am to 12pm
Location: YMCA Bowen Hills (95 Abbotsford Rd, Bowen Hills QLD 4006)
Remembrance Day 2018 marks 100 years since the end of World War One. 2018 also marks 100 years since the YMCA introduced the wearing of the red poppy as a symbol of remembrance. To mark these milestones, we’re making 80,000 poppies to display at YMCA Bowen Hills on Remembrance Day - one for every Australian and New Zealander killed in WWI – and we need your help to do it!
From July onwards, visit YMCA Bowen Hills to watch as we gradually create large visual displays of hand-made poppies as a community commemoration. On November 11, all 80,000 poppies will be featured in the final display! Come take pictures, discover history, and join us as we honour, respect, and remember the fallen.
How you can help:
We’re hosting craft nights and working bees at a number of YMCA centres. RSVP via our Facebook event to be notified when the next working bee will be held. Or, take a poppy making kit home and get your family and friends involved too! Every poppy made will be recorded in a Poppy Register on our website where your contribution can be dedicated. Contact Meg Woolf to learn how you can be involved and stay tuned for updates!
